Our long-term goal is to provide a curriculum for both middle and high school classrooms. Collectively, we are working to develop and engage the next generation of Ohio citizens. This innovative approach is the first of its kind in the United States. CSF provided the initial vision for the iCivics Ohio website in 2014. Their goal was to create one place where Ohio educators could come to easily find high-quality civic education resources that align to Ohio’s state standards. As mentioned above, CSF was originally established to increase public awareness of, and to involve citizens in, the history of the Ohio Statehouse; it envisions the iCivics Ohio website as an extension of that mission by offering a dynamic Ohio civics experience to all residents in the state, whether or not they are able to visit the Statehouse. CSF was familiar with the popularity of iCivics’ games and resources, both nationally and among Ohio schools, and approached iCivics to partner on an experience specifically for Ohio educators. CSF also invited the John Glenn College of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University to collaborate on the initiative, due to the college’s commitment to converting civic knowledge into civic action. Indeed, the Glenn College was founded on the principle that “an informed and involved citizenry is essential for democracy to thrive.” Longtime personal friends Senator John Glenn and iCivics Founder and Chairwoman Justice Sandra Day O’Connor are thrilled to be partnering together on this initiative. The John Glenn College of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University is responsible for the Ohio-specific content and maintenance of the site. The Glenn College also serves as a bridge between the partnership and other important resources at The Ohio State University. The Glenn College offers Undergraduate and Master's Degrees for teachers seeking to expand their skills into education policy & administration. We hope that this site serves as a helpful resource to Ohio-based educators in the fields of Civics, Government, History and Social Studies. The partners recognize the Ohio State Bar Foundation and the Jack W. and Sally D. Eichelberger Foundation of Dayton, Ohio as major contributors to this effort.
