Overview

Historians explore. In this lesson, students explore the planned city of Holyoke, Massachusetts. They will learn how the building of a dam and three-level canal system provided the infrastructure to support growing businesses and increased housing. Students will look at maps, watch a short video, and analyze historic photographs. Students will be able to provide evidence to answer the mystery question: "How did the city of Holyoke shape water to attract businesses?"
